Defines a "court day" as any day other than a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday, and directs that only court days be included when computing time expressed in days in the Rules or fixed by any court order.

"court day" means any day other than a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday, and only court days shall be included in the computation of any time expressed in days prescribed by these Rules or fixed by any order of court.

Mirrors the Uniform Rules: a "court day" excludes Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, and only court days count when computing time expressed in days under the Magistrates' Courts Rules.

Section 2 declares the days listed in Schedule 1 to be public holidays. Section 3 provides that whenever a public holiday falls on a Sunday, the following Monday is observed as a public holiday.

Section 2 — Public holidays
The days mentioned in Schedule 1 shall be public holidays, and whenever any public holiday falls on a Sunday, the Monday following on it shall be a public holiday.

Section 3 — Additional public holidays
Whenever any occasion requires the declaration of a public holiday not mentioned in Schedule 1, the President may by proclamation in the Gazette declare that day to be a public holiday.

• Good Friday — Friday before Easter Sunday
• Family Day — Monday after Easter Sunday

Governs motion (application) proceedings, including notice periods, service, filing of answering and replying affidavits and set-down. Time periods are computed in court days unless expressly stated otherwise. Court directives typically treat 21 December to 7 January as dies non for applications.

Regulates default and delivery of pleadings in action proceedings. Runs in court days. Per Rule 1's dies non provisions and long-standing directives, the period 16 December to 15 January is excluded from time computation in actions.

Framework legislation for South Africa's superior courts (Constitutional Court, Supreme Court of Appeal, and Divisions of the High Court). Empowers the Rules Board to make rules governing procedure and time computation.

The enabling Act for the Magistrates' Courts. Read together with the Magistrates' Courts Rules (GN R740 of 2010) which define "court day" and prescribe periods for pleadings, applications, notices and appeals.

SCA Rule 1 defines "court day" as any day other than a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday. Time periods for applications for leave to appeal, filing of records and heads of argument run in court days.

Rule 1 defines "court day" excluding Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. The Labour Court observes a recess (typically mid-December to mid-January) during which time does not run for the delivery of pleadings and affidavits, per practice directives issued by the Judge President.
